The second of three modules in the Learning to Adapt climate change adaptation training was delivered in March to a full house! The training was developed by the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand in partnership with the Office of Environment and Heritage and with the support of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia, the Green Building Council of Australia and the Institute of Environmental Studies at the UNSW. It featured expert speakers on managing climate risk, including ISCA Technical Director, Rick Walters. Rick commented that the course, which is recognised as a Master Class by ISCA, was unique in upskilling professionals in an important and emerging area of infrastructure risk managment. "The participants were very engaged", commented Rick, "and the work based projects that the class is delivering as part of the course ensure that the skills they are developing are relevant to the real world of infrastructure".

Participants were stepped through how to conduct climate change risk by leading climate risk practitioners Donna Lorenz and Ken Lunty (of ISCA members AECOM and Edge Environment respectively). The training also featured expert speakers on coastal adaptation, climate modelling, climate change adaptation policy and communications in a business context. Feedback from participants on the first two modules has been very positive and only a few places are still available for the third module, scheduled for 11 June 2014. The final module focuses on applying and communicating climate change adaptation policy and standards climate risk.
