IS International Pilots
Over the period leading to 2032, the world will require about $90 trillion in new infrastructure – most of it in developing and middle-income countries. Making the right choices in favour of infrastructure that is climate resilient and locks in a low carbon development pathway is critical (World Bank 2017). To help meet this challenge, and ensure infrastructure is designed, constructed and operated to optimise sustainable outcomes over the long term, ISCA have developed IS International (v1.0). Applying IS International ensures that:
- A common language for sustainability in infrastructure is established, increasing awareness and accelerating positive change;
- Whole-of-life sustainability risks for projects and assets are managed, catalysing smarter solutions, better projects with sustainable outcomes;
- Innovation and continuous improvement are rewarded, driving market change and industry behaviour; and
- Projects/assets save on investment capital through implementing whole-of-life costing to sustainability initiatives.
The IS International rating tool is a credit-based, flexible rating framework applicable to both developed and developing economies. The tool is built upon the credible, respected and well adopted foundation of the IS rating tool (v1.2), currently deployed across Australia and New Zealand. It has been developed to align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and was officially launched for implementation in September 2017.
There are four ways to get involved with IS International: partnering, piloting, training and stakeholder engagement.
Through partnering with ISCA you will be able to develop and establish your own Infrastructure Sustainability assessment and certification scheme, develop education and training material tailored for key stakeholders, as well as be part of a global infrastructure community where you can access infrastructure sustainability experts.
Market leaders registering their project for piloting at the design and/or as built phase signals to the industry that the asset owners are committed to sustainable outcomes and are determined to push boundaries and drive innovation through the setting of new standards for infrastructure deployment.
- Training, capability and competency
ISCA offers a range of training packages for sustainability practitioners/operational staff, project managers and executives. Each package can be tailored to your specific project and unique challenges, with the aim of creating a community of practise, thereby building in-country capability and expertise, and advancing sustainable outcomes for your infrastructure project.
ISCA can provide support to stakeholders through participation at industry forums and high-level government and multilateral meetings, offering relevant input on sustainable infrastructure techniques and application of the IS International rating tool. The ISCA team is well equipped in all aspects of infrastructure sustainability, and will work with stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial results for your infrastructure project.
